A sphere is an example of a manifold of dimension 2 embedded in ℝ3.
A manifold of dimension n is a set of points that is homeomorphic to n-dimensional Euclidean space. A manifold of dimension 1 is a curve, and a manifold of dimension 2 is a surface (however, not all curves and surfaces are manifolds).
